| Director's Message

Dear Parents,

How fortunate we are to be enjoying such beautifully clear late Summer skies this week.

My message today is intended to keep you well informed about some teaching staff matters that we are currently addressing.

I do appreciate that some of you may be unclear about the situation regarding Middle School Science classes and I hope that the following message may help a little as I outline what the situation is.

Please be assured that KIS and QSI headquarters are actively seeking to recruit a Middle School Science teacher.

As part of the staffing process for 2025-26 Mrs. Geary identified many months ago that a teacher would be needed to teach Middle School Science.

QSI advertised on multiple media platforms all vacant positions for KIS from Director to Elementary class homeroom teacher and gradually each position was filled...except Middle School Science teacher.

Mrs. Geary and I interviewed some candidates together in May and June and finally found someone willing and capable to join our wonderful school. He was offered a contact, accepted and then unfortunately withdrew at the end of June.

The search continued throughout the Summer, I was working with QSI HQ to try to find solutions throughout June and July - but no-one suitable came forward. Finally at the beginning of August the KIS Admin team had to move forward with the staffing that we had.

Ms. Zoromski, Mr. Boldosser and I worked extensively to rewrite the entire schedule and find solutions to the situation. We have fully qualified teachers at KIS who are capable of teaching multiple subjects. So, we looked for those teachers who had some capacity in their teaching load and who would be able to teach Science. Those teachers were assigned to 11, 12 and 13 year old Science classes.

In addition, the teacher who was covering our swimming teacher's maternity leave has been unable to secure a work permit, despite lengthy and extensive efforts on his part and the part of KIS. Sadly, he has left. A swimming teacher must possess both teaching credentials as a PE teacher and as a swimming teacher. We have one teacher on staff who fulfils these requirements and that is Mr. Prima. Mr. Prima's schedule is full and he cannot teach swimming as well. The swimming pool is currently not being used for swimming lessons and we are taking the opportunity to investigate some overdue repairs to the pool area.

I will keep you updated regarding progress with both matters and continue to actively seek solutions.

Please note that Mr. Jonathan Logan will not be school next week due to a previously agreed engagement overseas. He has prepared all lessons in advance and discussed them with Mr. Boldosser. A substitute teacher will teach Mr. Logan's classes.

Stay safe this weekend and thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Susan Tilney
