Director's Message

Dear KIS families,

We hope that this first week has gone well for you all. We continue to smooth out some bumps in our schedule and program, but in general it feels like things are going well. It has been a busy week, but it also has been a rewarding one. There will be so much more to come, but starting on the right foot can make all the difference.

Coffee Chat
We will be having our first KIS Coffee Chat on Tuesday, September 6th, at 2:00. We hope you will be able to join us. The main topic of conversation will be the school schedule and discussing what is working so far, as well as any recommended adjustments. You will see the Zoom Information to join the Coffee Chat below.

KIS Advisory Board - Looking for New Board Members
We are currently looking for some new advisory board members for the school. Normally, we have 6-8 members each year. We are currently looking to rebuild the board, as many of the previous board members have moved. If you are interested in serving on the KIS Advisory Board, please email me. We normally have 6-7 meetings a year to discuss all aspects of the school.

Family Campus Comfort Level Survey
We know that there is a range of comfort that exists in Kyiv and Ukraine right now. We are now watching as some schools are having students on campus. As we think through such an option, we would like to get a better idea of how our community feels about everything. Please, fill in this FORM.

Thank you for all your support and positivity you have brought to this school year.

Слава Україні!

Sincerely,

Luke Woodruff
Director
Kyiv International School

Student Photos - Privacy Notice & Consent

Dear Parents,

Kyiv International School is committed to the protection and responsible use of your child's private data. As you are aware, there are many events and activities for the KIS students to get involved in. Kyiv International School uses photos of students on the school website, on the newsletter and social media. This allows us to highlight and share with the community all the colours of the school life and celebrate the achievements of our students. In this digital age, many members of our school community use social media to stay connected with what is happening in school and, for those who don’t use social media, the website is an important communication tool which showcases what we do.

To that end, we request that you carefully read the Privacy Notice & Consent form and provide your explicit consent for the use and processing of your child's data.

Your consent may be withdrawn at any time by sending written notice indicating your withdrawal of consent to the school email kyiv@qsi.org or kozakconnect@qsi.org, without affecting the legality of any data processing having taken place before such withdrawal.

Languages Other Than English

Welcome to LOE!

The LOE (Languages other than English) department is opening its doors.

We have less of students, less of teachers but we continue offering all the LOE programs we had before: Non-native, and Native, QSI, IB and AP.  There is even a new course for 5/6 y.o., Exploring World Languages, in which our 5 languages (French, German, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian) will be introduced.

The first week has passed, the groups have been formed but you can still join us, just complete the FORM

Former students? If you are in other schools, in other countries, it doesn't mean that you can't be a part of our community. We are online and, if your schedule fits, you will see your LOE teacher every day participating in his/her virtual classes. You need to contact me, and I will add you to the group.

Language Clubs

We are happy to announce that LOE Clubs are coming back.

If you are in Elementary or Middle School, your period 7, Passions, may be used for doing something fun and interesting in the target language. The High schoolers will organize their Clubs during Office time or in the evening.

Dear parents if you want to continue learning Russian or Ukrainian, please, let me know (sergey-berezhny@kyiv.qsi.org). We had Introductory and Intermediate levels and met twice a week. You will choose the days and the time with your teacher.

Let's make this year victorious, challenging, and unforgettable!

Kozak Nation

Dear Kozak Nation,

My name is Lee Feekins and I have the pleasure of being the new Athletics Director and Activities coordinator for Kyiv International School.

I think that we all understand that this year will be a year like no other. It offers tremendous challenges and difficulties, and none more so than in the area of Student participation. When I look at where our program was just one year ago, it is hard to comprehend how many things have changed.

And yet I also feel that these challenges and restrictions have presented us with opportunity. We, as a collective, have a chance to build something new and unique that can be tailor made to fit our entire community. We will of course endeavor to continue as many of our traditional pursuits as our situation allows, but perhaps the gaps could be filled with new and distinctive activities that are more suited to our current situation.

In the following days please look out for emails from me, looking for any ideas or input from you. My hope is that this collective brainstorming will lead to the availability of something interesting and fun for all.
