Kozak Korner #07. September 27th, 2024

| Director's Message

Dear Families,

A huge thank you to our hard-working, creative and invested Parent Support Group for organizing the PTO Picnic last Saturday. What an amazing community event!

This week I want to celebrate the joy of reading.

Reading opens doors to imagination, knowledge, and critical thinking. It allows us to explore new worlds, meet the unimaginable, and understand a broad spectrum of perspectives. Through books, we can travel to far-away places, unravel mysteries, and explore new passions.

In our classrooms, we aim to cultivate a love for reading by providing a wide variety of texts that reach all our learners. From captivating novels to informative non-fiction, we strive to create an environment where every student feels inspired to pick up a book and explore.

Our library has a vast collection of novels and non-fiction texts for our community members to borrow. Please encourage your children to read! We will host a book sale next Thursday and Friday – stop by and grab a book!

Enjoy a peaceful weekend.

A reminder that next Tuesday, October 1st is a holiday, and school will not be in session.

You can always contact us by calling +38 044 452 2792.

Best regards,
Rachel Geary

Technology Strategic Planning Framework | An Introduction

An Introduction

Kyiv International School is excited to announce that this year we will be working closely with the QSI HQ Technology Department to implement a new Technology Strategic Planning Framework which is designed to assist schools in developing a comprehensive roadmap to guide the effective development, support, integration, and utilization of technology in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Over the coming months, a team of dedicated administrators, teachers, and IT professionals will be developing a Vision for Technology Usage and Integration, building our Goals for Technology Usage and Integration, and using those goals to create a detailed Strategic Action Plan, planning for the materials, training, and support needed to realize that vision.

As part of this initiative, Kyiv International School is asking for your participation in helping us to understand the perspective, needs, and concerns of the parent community as relates to the usage and integration of technology in your child’s education.

We're asking you to follow the LINK to a short survey which will ask you to respond to a few questions related to technology administration, instructional technology, and the technology infrastructure at the school. Your responses are completely anonymous and will be essential in helping us shape the future of technology usage and integration in our school.

All Kyiv International School staff and students aged 10 years and older will be asked to complete a similar survey to ensure that all perspectives are considered as we plan for a strong future of growth and development.

Thank you in advance for contributing your voice and support to this effort.

Director, Kyiv International School

Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. On Friday, Sept 20, the new Secondary Student Council (President Nikita R., Vice-President Sofiya S., Treasurer Maria F., and Secretary Artem M.) produced their first event of the 2024-25 school year, the ever-popular Clash of the Classes.

Due to concerns about air quality in Svyatoshyn district on Friday, the 2024 edition of the event moved indoors for the first time ever, but no loss of fun or participation was noticed by the organizers.

Just over 30 students and six teacher / chaperones enjoyed games and contests, as well as pizza, drinks and cupcakes.

Highlights included a spirited game of Musical Chairs and Tug-of-War, as well as a new twist, a Hamster Ball Relay.

The evening, which is a KIS tradition dating back nearly a decade, has always been used to welcome new Secondaries to the Kozak Nation.

To that end, Vice-President Sofiya led the 'new crew' in reciting the Kozak Oath:

"I vow to stay up all night doing Ms. Chemerys homework;

I vow to do all of the overly excessive work Mr. Hume gives me for TOK or AP Human Geography,

I vow to stay loyal to Sofia the Barista and never stray away from her coffee again,

I vow to look up synonyms for Ms. Denney's essays to make me seem smarter.

And I vow to continue laughing at Mr. Feekins unfunny jokes until I finally graduate.

Congratulations. You are now Kozaks.

And as any Kozak will tell you: Once a Kozak, always a Kozak."

SecStuCo thanks everyone who made the event possible, especially the chaperones who supervised, and the students who attended.

The group is now busy planning an exciting year of events and activities for The KIS Secondary Community.
