 DI's Message

Dear Elementary and Middle School Families,

These weeks after break have been especially difficult for our Ukrainian families as they juggle electricity and internet outages. Ukrainian based families, please know that we understand the difficulties you are facing and appreciate the extra steps you are taking to manage the aspects you can control.

Spirit Week: I am looking forward to Spirit Week next week! I am ready for some silliness and fun! Please see the posts for the Student Council dress-up days and the PTO Fall Festival contest within this newsletter.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Thank you for attending parent teacher conferences last week; building partnerships between school and home is important! If you have questions or concerns, our teachers are available all year long, not just during conference times, so feel free to reach out to them.

Success Orientation Certificates: If your child earned an “Exemplary” mark on one of the seven Success Orientations, their certificate for Quintile 1 is available on the Moodle Parent Portal (Log in to Moodle at https://study.kis.net.ua/). This is the same place where you can find the last status report. Learn more about the QSI Success Orientations here: Success Orientations - Quality Schools International (qsi.org)

As always, please feel free to reach out with questions or concerns:
Elementary Office: kiseloffice@kyiv.qsi.org
Middle School Office: kismsoffice@kyiv.qsi.org

Best regards,

Mrs. Carla Grossman

  SECONDARY

 DI's Message

What’s Going on in Secondary

This week we tried something new with Morning Mindset, giving students some flexibility and choice. We are hoping some students will step up and offer their own Morning Mindset sessions on Friday. Feedback from Parent Teacher Conference suggests that while most students may not always want to get out of bedthey see the value of this time. We will be offering a space for students to learn the Dance for Kindness for the next two weeks of Morning Mindset. https://www.danceforkindness.com/

We have been working to create a block schedule for Thursday and Friday, as this was a topic that was raised again at PTC. Look for information about this proposed change next week.

We understand the situation in Kyiv regarding the electrical shortages, and realize this may cause students to miss class. If this happens, students should always email Ms. Geary and/or Ms. Marianna, once they have internet access, so that they are not marked absent.

Hopeful to see lots of “spirit” next week during Spirit Week.

Enjoy your weekend, stay safe!

As always, email me with questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Rachel Geary
Director of Instruction

  LEARNING STORIES & WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  This Is Us: Educator Profile

Nataliya Yegorova
Titles: Preschool & SO Coordinator

Why am I teaching: When I was a child I was very unhappy in my Kindergarten and always dreamed about a place where children would be treated and educated in a different way. So, I became a preschool teacher and now every day I am trying to make my classroom interesting, exciting, safe, respectful and stimulating environment for my students. I wanted to be a teacher because there is no routine in this job. Every new day is never the same. Children are so unique.

Favourite Quote: "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Favourite thing about KIS: People, Community, Kozak spirit.

Dance in Physical Education
Dance in Physical Education

Dance is an important part of movement and social development. It is a series of support skills and fitness options that enhance every other activity a child will do. Dance burns calories, strengthens muscles, improves balance, increases flexibility, and gives the heart a good workout. Dance has also been proven to increase cognitive development. Current research documents the importance of exercise on the brain and supports what dancers have always known – the body and mind are connected in vital ways.

The Answer Is The Least Important Thing...

In Mathematics-12 class, students are focused on communicating – one form of communication in math class is showing step-by-step work. The goal of this type of communication is to walk a reader through the thought process from the question to the answer. Most times in class, the students are GIVEN THE ANSWERS ahead of time – why? Because the thinking and the process are more important.
