Kozak Korner #12. November 10th, 2023

| Director's Message

Dear Families,

I would like to share this quote from Nelson Mandela:

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

At this juncture in time, the world faces immense social, economic, political and environmental issues – our challenge is to empower our students to creatively and collaboratively come up with solutions through open and constructive communication.

Our students continue to learn how to be productive members of our school community and face challenges with resilience and fortitude. Our new students are adjusting to a different school environment and different methods of learning. Our returning students are getting used to a school environment which is very different from our “community center” approach last year.

Our teachers are working hard to promote and English as a common language. Please help us with this by talking to your child at home about the importance of speaking English on the KIS campus! Our teachers are open to your questions and concerns. Please use email (not Viber or phone calls) to address classroom concerns.

A reminder that supervision starts at 8:15. Elementary students who arrive earlier than this time should either be supervised by a parent, or they should sit in the lobby until 8:15. It is not safe for them to play outside without adequate supervision.

My door is always open to you – if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to email me or make an appointment with Ms. Sydorchuk maria-sydorchuk@kyiv.qsi.org

Best regards,
Rachel Geary

First page of the PDF file: KISCovidPolicy

The Kyiv International School COVID policy is based on policies and guidance from the UK and USA. (Please see links below).

First and foremost: If you are sick – stay home! Coughing, sneezing, fever? Stay home! When you feel better and the symptoms are gone, come back to school.

You do not need to test for COVID unless you are directed to do so by a health care professional. If you feel sick and go to the doctor, they will assess your symptoms and may request you get a test. The school does not administer rapid tests and we do not pay for testing.

If you test positive, you should isolate for 5 days from the time the symptoms start. Day 0 is the first day you feel unwell. These are sick days – you will not teach virtually. After 5 days of isolating, you should wear a mask for an additional 5 days when you are in contact with people.

If someone in your household has tested positive for COVID they should self-isolate. If you need to have contact with that person, you should BOTH wear a mask during this contact.

Wearing a mask to school! If you are concerned about your health or the health of someone in your household, you should feel comfortable to wear a mask to school. If you believe you have been exposed to any illness (flu, covid, cold) but do not have any symptoms, it is good practice to wear a mask.

INTENSIVE ENGLISH: SHARING A GREAT BOOK

There are many great ways to become fluent in a foreign language, and reading a fine story is one of them. Some time ago, Diana, Gleb, Polina, and Sasha - all eleven-year-old IE students read “Is your Mama a Llama?” by Debora Guarino, a favorite children’s classic. They enjoyed
