Kozak Korner #12. November 08th, 2024

| Director's Message

Dear Families,

Today I would like to highlight and celebrate a huge step our school has made this week. Kyiv International School is part of the Central Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA). Before covid and the full-scale invasion in 2022, our school teams would regularly travel to other CEESA schools to compete.

Every year, 10-15 teams would travel to compete in sports’ tournaments (football, volleyball, basketball, cross-country) and activities (math counts, knowledge bowl, speech and debate) across Eastern Europe. This all sadly ended with the pandemic in 2020.

I am excited to announce that under the guidance of Lee Feekins, our Athletic/Activities director, our Secondary Boys’ Football team has travelled to Bratislava to compete in the 2024 CEESA Boys’ Football tournament.

We hope this is just the beginning of a new era of KIS participation in these amazing events.

You can always contact us by calling +38 044 452 2792.

Best regards,
Rachel Geary

| Ethical AI Use

KIS recognizes that AI is a useful and practical tool in our modern world. In a 21st-century classroom, teachers should model and instruct students in the responsible, ethical use of AI tools. At the same time, teachers should be aware of environmental variables that tempt students to use this software dishonestly. By consciously designing a class that is responsive and manageable, teachers can encourage students to discover their unique, original voices.

| "Empower" Lesson Plans

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.
