Kozak Korner #14. November 22nd, 2024

| Director's Message

Dear Families,

We hope you are enjoying the long weekend. Professional Development is an essential part of the QSI teaching and leadership experience. This year, 8 of our teachers travelled to Bratislava to attend the QSI Northern European Regional Professional Development Conference while the rest of the teaching staff attended our KIS conference. The theme of both conferences was “Empowering the Next Generation: Technology, Wellness and Inclusivity”. Meaningful conversations, engaging presentations and collaboration were intermixed with games, fun, food and teambuilding. We hope our teachers feel invigorated and inspired!

Enjoy the snow!

You can always contact us by calling +38 044 452 2792.

Best regards,
Rachel Geary

Calling all KIS families!

The annual Charity Fair 2024 is approaching soon. The event is set for November 30th, and IWCK (International Women's Club) will feature a Tombola table with exciting prizes for both adults and children. They’ve reached out to KIS, requesting a few additional children’s prizes, such as small toys, books, sweets, or festive decorations.

Funds raised from the Tombola will support IWCK’s charity projects, helping people with disabilities, elderly individuals, children, and women in need.

Starting Monday, KIS will have a donation box set up—just look for the poster!

Your contributions, big or small, will make a huge difference. The deadline for donations is November 28th.

Thank you for helping us spread kindness this holiday season!

| Yearbook Individual Photos

Say cheese, KIS!

Individual yearbook portraits are happening on December 3rd and 4th

If the schedule is interrupted by an air alert, don’t worry—we’ll make sure to reschedule so everyone gets their moment to shine.

| Book Club For Adults

Bibliotherapy – Reading, Enjoying and Talking About Books Together

KIS is starting a book club for adults, and you are invited to join!

Here are the plans:

  1. Read one book per month and be ready to discuss it in English.
  2. Each month one person in the club chooses three titles and we will vote for which one we want to read. We will have one month to read the chosen title before our next meeting.
  3. That book host/hostess of the month will also choose the restaurant or cafe where we will meet to discuss the book and enjoy each other’s company.

Our first book is Grey Bees by Andre Kurkov. Our first meeting will be Thursday, December 12 at around 18:00. The restaurant will be chosen later.

If you are interested, please contact Diane Baima at  diane-baima@kyiv.qsi.org

| "Empower" Lesson Plans

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.
