Kozak Korner #16. December 05th, 2025

| Director's Message

Dear parents,

I hope that many of you have been able to attend the school production 'WillPower' this week. What a testament to the results that can be achieved through hard work, passion, perseverance and collaboration.

All of our Success Orientations were demonstrated by students and teachers alike. A special mention for the following teachers and staff members whose dedication and creativity made this wonderful performance possible:

Leanne Hume, Bob Hume, Tanya Boychenko, Irene Bykova, Alina Filipchuk, Olga Golitsyna, Theo Kourkov, Oksana Law, Jake McGrew, Olga Steblyanko, Vlad Zakharov, Katya Zakharova.

Over the past few weeks teachers have been reviewing the school's behaviour management systems and reflecting on some ways to bring more clarity for all with regard to misbehaviours and consequences for different misbehaviours.

We have used a 3 level misbehaviour chart with level 1 being misbehaviours that distract from student learning, level 2 repeated level 1 misbehaviours and those misbehaviours that contradict Success Orientations and level 3 misbehaviours that put themselves and others in physical and/or emotional danger.

I will share our final draft next week for your viewing and then during the week beginning 12th January 2026 there will be 3 parent meetings where I will go over this chart:

  • Wednesday 14th January at 8:45am - Elementary School (5-10 year olds)
  • Thursday 15th January 2026 at 8:45am - 11,12 and 13 year olds
  • Friday 16th January 2026 at 8:45am - Secondary 1 to IV

The following week there will be 3 student assemblies where the final chart will be shared with all students in the school in an age appropriate manner.

Quintile 2 Status Reports will be sent to you next week.

Stay safe and have a lovely weekend,

Kind regards,

Susan Tilney

| International Night 2026

Dear KIS Community,

We are delighted to announce one of the most beloved traditions of our school year — International Night! This long-awaited celebration brings together our entire KIS community to honor the rich cultural diversity that makes our school truly special.

On Friday, February 13th, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, the KIS Gym will transform into a vibrant tapestry of cuisine, traditional attire, music, cultural displays, and our iconic Flag Parade. It is an evening where families proudly share the flavors, stories, and traditions of their home countries — and where we celebrate what unites us as one global community.

We warmly invite all families to participate and represent their country. Whether through food, dress, a cultural display, or simply joining the Flag Parade, your involvement helps make this night unforgettable.

If you would like to take part, please complete THE PARTICIPATION FORM and let us know which country you will represent. Form submissions are requested by January 16th.

If you have any questions or proposals, please reach out to Ms. Olga Kardash at olga-kardash@kyiv.qsi.org.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the beauty, diversity, and unity of our KIS family.  We look forward to creating another memorable International Night together!

| "Empower" Program

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.
