Kozak Korner #20. January 21, 2022

Director's Message

Dear KIS Community,

I just wanted to put a quick note in the newsletter this week. I will be sending out a separate KIS Informer with more information about the school's crisis management planning. Some of this will help those in our community understand how authorized and ordered departure of expats in Ukraine may impact our teaching staff.

We will also have a Community Coffee Chat on Wednesday, January 26th, at 10:00 to discuss the current situation and how it effects the school.

Classes with homeroom teachers, specials, crafts, recess and more.

P.S. Children grow so fast. We know! That's why we've decided to post more photos of our preschool group. Enjoy!

Let’s Build Together!

Teacher: Olena Shefner

For the next several weeks in Literacy, our unit will be “I Build, I Create”. This unit is focused on developing creativity, fine and gross motor skills and just having fun! Students are going to talk about tools that builders need to build houses, towers, bridges and skyscrapers. Blocks help children learn to take turns and share materials, develop new friendships, increase attention span and cooperate with others. Working with various building sets develop self-esteem. Building with blocks provides one of the most valuable learning experiences available for all children.

9CB Quick Write - Wear a Mask

Teacher: Cynthia Bateman

Students in Ms. Bateman's class wanted to share their thoughts of the importance of wearing a mask. Please expand to read students' quick write  - you're gonna love it! >>

Intensive English

Intensive English Elementary

Teacher: Julia Matveyeva

Our amazing young learners of Intensive English Course have been very busy studying all about family and different activities they like to do together. They used action words and personal pronouns in their writing. The students enjoyed reading both hard-cover and online books about family.

While studying food vocabulary, the students were very creative making their own books, in which they drew and colored pictures of different types of food they like and dislike. They learnt to describe the kinds of food of their choice using adjectives. The final step was to present their projects to the class, which they were so proud of.

Way to go, our wonderful students!

Middle School

Gutenberg and the Printing Revolution

Teacher: Patrick Notue

What better subject after the New Year celebration than the Renaissance? This week the 13 year olds learned the origin of a significant fact of history. As a result, they investigated the spread of the New Ideas from Florence to the rest of Europe. A remarkable new process – Johannes Gutenberg’s moveable type printing press – helped spread Humanism and the other ideas of the Renaissance. Our 13 year olds put themselves in the shoes of the inventor known as Gutenberg. They succeeded, thanks to their brilliance and determination, in making Moveable Types, which they used to print few words in the former way. However, much still needs to be carried out. We have not yet found the key to the mystery, but we are getting closer.
