Kozak Korner #21. January 31st, 2025

| Director's Message

Dear KIS Community,

I am excited to share with you our positive experience with the Student Advocacy Conferences. This feedback for teachers (and directors!) is anonymous and allows students to really speak for themselves and their school experience. The vast majority (almost all!) of responses were polite, constructive reflections on what they like about their classes and what parts of their experiences they would like to change. From the feedback I received, I understood that many of our students would like to have a classroom pet!

We are excited about international night tomorrow! This is a wonderful event which strengthens our sense of community and allows us to appreciate our diversity. Please remember that this is a family event and there isn’t supervision provided by the school.

See you tomorrow!

You can always contact us by calling +38 044 452 2792.

Best regards,
Rachel Geary

| Welcome New Director of Instruction For 2025-2026

Hello Kyiv Team,

I’m honored to be joining you for the next school year. I’ve had the opportunity to serve in several educational capacities in the United States and various locations overseas. My experiences include roles such as a teacher in a number of schools, Director of Technology, and school principals at several schools.  It is my hope that as I serve everyone in my new position, I can offer valuable insights that equip you to further support students, peers, and everyone else who influences our student population. My wife Triana and I are excited about this opportunity and look forward to meeting our new colleagues.

Best regards,
James M. Boldosser

| "Empower" Lesson Plans

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.

Bibliotherapy – reading, enjoying and talking about books together

KIS has a book club for adults, and you are invited to join!

Here are the plans:

  1. Read one book per month and be ready to discuss it in English.

  1. Each month one person in the club chooses three titles and we will vote for which one we want to read.  We will have one month to read the chosen title before our next meeting.

  1. That book host/hostess of the month will also choose the restaurant or cafe where we will meet to discuss the book and enjoy each other’s company.

The book that we will read in February is Snow by Orhan Pamuk.

If you are interested, please contact Diane Baima at  diane-baima@kyiv.qsi.org
