Kozak Korner #24. February 23rd, 2024

| Director's Message

Dear Families,

Wishing you a wonderful February vacation. I hope you enjoy some restful family time.

As a community we are moving forward with a more cohesive, coherent English language policy. We feel this is essential to create an environment welcoming to students from around the world. As embassies open posts to families, we are looking forward to building an international community at KIS where English is our common language.

- Elementary teachers will communicate how they are encouraging students to speak English on campus with incentives and age-appropriate consequences.

- Middle School and Secondary Students, Teachers and Administrators have worked together to develop a policy for these divisions.

Please see the policy here: English on Campus.pdf . We will have a Be Exception, Excel in English campaign from March 4th-15th. This will be a fun, incentive-based campaign which allows students to demonstrate their commitment to this policy, have some fun and hopefully get some rewards. We also plan a variety of game-based incentives to continue to encourage English on campus.

Please save the date for a KIS classic: PTO Bingo Night! This is a very fun event for the whole family!

See you in March!

Best regards,
Rachel Geary

| School Year 2024 - 2025

Dear Families,

We are making plans for the 2024-25 school year; we expect our school to continue to grow both in size and diversity. We will honor our commitment to offer significantly reduced fees from our pre-war tuition to help provide education to as many families as possible. However, our 2024-25 fees have increased slightly. If the fee increase is a challenge to your family’s finances, please apply for a scholarship. We are committed to helping our community. Please see the new school fees and school calendar for the 2024-25 school year. The re-enrolment process will begin in March; it is a very easy process through Open Apply – you will receive an email.

If you have questions or concerns, please do reach out: rachel-geary@kyiv.qsi.org

| "Empower" Lesson Plans

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.
