Kozak Korner #24. March 06th, 2026

| Interim Director's Message

Hello Parents,

This week marked a busy return from the break, and it has been wonderful to welcome our students back to campus and see them actively engaged in their learning.

Student grades were distributed via email earlier this week. If you did not receive the message or are experiencing difficulty accessing your child’s grades, please contact the school office and our staff will be happy to assist you.

In addition, Middle School and High School Students participated in the first part of the Student Code of Conduct presentation. This material was previously introduced to parents during the meetings held prior to the break. Students will receive the second part of the presentation next week. Once both sessions have been completed, the presentation will be shared with parents for their reference.

Please also note that there will be no school on Monday, March 8th in observance of International Women’s Day. We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday.

Sincerely,

Chelsey Zoromski

Tardies & Being On Time

Arriving on time is part of being responsible and respectful of learning. Being “on time” means students are in their classroom, seated, and ready to learn when the bell rings.

Important tardy reminders:

  • Students arriving late must sign in at Reception and get a late pass
  • 3 tardies per quintile are allowed
  • 4th tardy: an email will be sent home
  • 6th tardy: a parent meeting will be set up with administration and student will receive an “N” warning for Responsibility
  • 7+ tardies: student will receive an “N” for Responsibility; there may also be an impact on scholarships and university applications; student may receive detention

When there is an air alarm, students still have 1 hour after the siren ends to arrive at school on time.

| French Spring

Francophonie

There are more and more francophones at KIS, and we decided to organize a VIRTUAL CONCERT for our community. If you (students, teachers, parents) speak French and would like to read your favorite poem in this beautiful language or to sing a song, please, join us! You need only to make a video of your performance and to send it to: sergey-berezhny@kyiv.qsi.org, by March 16th and you will be on the stage with other participants.

On Friday 20th (French language day), you will be invited to our French Café. If you have already been there before, you will notice a lot of changes. This year, we will work for you from 10 am till 2 pm, it will not be so crowded, and everybody (sitting at a table) will pass the order in French. The next week, you will get more details about this event.

DELF Junior exams

Several times a year, the French Institute and the Alliance Française in Ukraine arrange the testing for students learning French. This is a great opportunity to check your level of language, and to obtain a document proving your mastery. DELF Certificates are recognized around the world and needed for studies and work in countries where French is spoken.

The registration for the DELF Junior (12-17 y.o.) examination session that will take place in April, has started and will last till March 15th .

Each test is divided in two parts. First, your listening, reading and writing will be assessed (the dates are below):

  • A1 - April 1st, 2 pm
  • A2 - April 1st, 4 pm
  • B1 - April 2nd, 2 pm
  • B2 - April 3rd, 2 pm

For the second part (speaking), the date and time will be chosen individually and may be set from 6-30 April. No worries about a conflict with our break, you can discuss your preferences with the DELF/DALF Coordinator, Monsieur Yassine El-Chehab (phone: 044.482.23.71, email: delfdalf.kiev@gmail.com).

By the way, the fees are almost the same:

  • A1 and A2 - 1.300 hryvnas
  • B1 - 1.600 ₴
  • B2 - 1.900 ₴

| Persuasive Rhetorical Speech + Performance - Call To Action

To speak truth to power.
To stand up for what is right when it is difficult.
To refuse silence when silence protects wrongdoing.

Recently, our Secondary students took the stage in the auditorium to deliver powerful performances directly to the audience. Their task: to address young people all over the world on the topic of political awareness and informed youth engagement.

With purpose and conviction, the students aimed to persuade their peers to educate themselves about political parties and global issues, encouraging thoughtful engagement instead of relying solely on social media or remaining indifferent.

Take a look at some powerful moments from their speeches:

If we don’t choose our beliefs, someone else will choose them for us.

| Animal Supply Drive - Thank You!

My name is Mariia K., and I am a Secondary 4 IB student. Recently, our school community took part in the Animal Supply Drive in support of the Sirius Animal Shelter.

I am happy to announce that the drive has now come to an end, and it was a very successful event! Thanks to the generosity of students and families, we collected many donations that will soon be delivered to the shelter to help animals in need.

This project was more than just about winning a prize. It was about learning how important it is to help others, show kindness, and support animals who depend on people for care and protection.

For Elementary School, the drive was organized as a class competition, and we are excited to congratulate the 8-year-old class, who collected the most donations and won the pizza party!

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this initiative. Your support truly makes a difference for the animals at Sirius Shelter.

Thank you!

| "Empower" Program

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.
