Kozak Korner #25. March 13th, 2026

| Interim Director's Message

Hello KIS,

We started our student‑versus‑teacher volleyball tournament this week which takes place during the lunch recess. Middle and high school students brought great energy (and some impressive serves!) as they competed against each other and the staff. It was a wonderful reminder of how events like these strengthen connections across our school community.

This week also marked an important opportunity for professional growth. Seven of our staff members attended the CEESA professional development conference in Sofia, Bulgaria. CEESA brings together international educators to share innovative practices, new ideas, and research-based strategies. Our team returned inspired and energized, ready to bring fresh perspectives into their classrooms and collaborative work. Professional learning like this is a direct investment in our students.

The insights and strategies our team brings back will ripple through classrooms, curriculum planning, and school culture in the weeks and months ahead.

Wishing everyone a great week ahead!

Sincerely,

Chelsey Zoromski

The image appears to be a schedule for individual yearbook portraits, listing the time slots and sections for students to have their photos taken over two days at the Auditorium.

Lights, Camera... KIS!

The camera is coming out for one of our favorite yearbook traditions! Individual portraits for the KIS Yearbook will take place on March 24th–25th for all students and staff.

These photos become part of the memories we keep for years to come, so please plan to be at school on your scheduled day and ready for your moment in the spotlight.

We can’t wait to capture the smiles, personalities, and that Kozak spirit!

| Francophonie

Francophonie

20 March is the International Day of Francophonie. 321 million people speak French and, since 1988, this date is celebrated around the world. At KIS too... As you already know, we will organize a virtual concert and the French Café.

Virtual Concert

The next week, you will watch it here. There are more and more participants with beautiful poems and songs. If you want to be on the stage, you have time till Monday, March 16th.  You should make a video (maximum 4 minutes long) and send it to: sergey-berezhny@kyiv.qsi.org. Merci beaucoup!

French Café

We are inviting you to the French Café that will take place at the Kozaks' Kitchen and the lobby, on Friday 20th .

It will be open from 10 am till 2.20 pm for:

  • 10.00 - 10.20: Everybody (students, teachers, parents),
  • 10.20 - 11.50: Everybody, except students (however, they can come with their class, if the teacher signs up for),
  • 11.50 - 12.45: Everybody (except Elementary),
  • 12.45 - 13.30: KIS staff only,
  • 13.30 - 14.20: Elementary (8, 9, 10 y.o.) only.

HS/MS students learning French language and culture will cook for you Croque-monsieur, Belgian waffles, pancakes and make Diabolo mint, hot chocolate... The menu is big enough and the prices are reasonable. You will sit at a table with your friends, listen to French music, taste traditional dishes and, sure, speak French.

Even though you have never done it before, you will be able to place your order. No worries, we will help you!

The raised money will be donated to the Sirius Animal Shelter. The Ukrainian hryvna is equivalent of one Frank, only in our café and only on this day! So, take some cash and don't miss the event!

Soyez les bienvenus ! Welcome!

| Animal Supply Drive

Recently, our school community came together to support the Sirius Animal Shelter through the Animal Supply Drive.

Thanks to the participation and generosity of many students and families, we collected a large number of donations that will help animals at the shelter.

This week, we celebrated the Elementary School winners — the 8-year-old class — with a pizza party. The students were very excited, and it was wonderful to see their happiness after all the effort they put into collecting donations.

At the same time, we wanted to recognize the participation of all the other classes who also contributed to the drive. As a small thank-you, students in the participating classes received small gifts to celebrate their effort and kindness.

This initiative showed how much our school community can achieve when we work together to help others.

All donations will be delivered to the shelter at the end of March, so anyone who would still like to contribute is welcome to do so. Donations can be dropped off at reception or given to your homeroom teacher.

Thank you to everyone who took part in supporting the animals at Sirius Shelter.

| "Empower" Program

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.
