Kozak Korner #28. April 03rd, 2026

| Interim Director's Message

Dear Families,

This week on campus was filled with a variety of events, keeping everyone engaged and active across multiple activities. The volleyball teams were in action, with KIS facing off against AISU in a series of mixed boys and girls matches. While KIS won one of the three games, the team displayed strong determination and teamwork throughout. Meanwhile, the middle school boys football team also had a busy week, showcasing their developing skills and teamwork on the field.

In addition to the sports activities, the 8YO class hosted a Success Orientation (SO) assembly about Group Interaction. The assembly emphasized the importance of working together effectively in teams, fostering communication, and supporting one another to achieve common goals. It was a valuable session that encouraged students to strengthen their collaborative skills, laying the foundation for a positive and cooperative school environment.

As we approach the last week before spring break, next week Thursday will be a half-day, with dismissal at 11:50 AM. There will be no school on Friday to give families more time for travel.

Enjoy your weekend.

Sincerely,

Chelsey Zoromski

| Important: Updated Ukrainian Railways Safety Rules for Upcoming School Trips

Dear KIS Parents,

In May and June, our school will have some trips using Ukrzaliznytsia trains. On March 24, Ukrainian Railways announced strengthened passenger safety rules during travel:

Preparation stage. After a signal from the conductor, passengers must gather their most important belongings (documents, gadgets) and be dressed and ready to exit. It is important to remain in your compartment or seat until direct instructions are given by staff. Passengers should communicate any need for assistance (for children or those with limited mobility) in advance.

Emergency exit. During evacuation, the main rule is to leave all heavy luggage in the carriage. This is important to prevent crowding. Passengers should exit through the nearest door, avoiding jumping onto the tracks or stopping on the rails.

Behavior outside. After exiting, passengers must not gather in groups near the train, as it remains a potential target. It is necessary to disperse while keeping the conductor in a signal vest within sight. In case of nearby explosions, immediately lie on the ground face down with your mouth open. Quickly proceed to a shelter (you will not be forgotten there during the train’s departure) or move to a safe distance away from the carriage.

Return to the train. Passengers may take their seats in the carriages only after an official signal (a whistle or a megaphone announcement) indicating that the danger has passed.

| "Empower" Program

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.
