Director's Message

Dear KIS Community,

I would like to thank those who have already taken the time to complete the re-enrollment form. You can complete this by logging into your family profile, where you will also find more information about school fees, the school calendar, and information packet for the 2022-23 school year.

If you have been withdrawn from KIS, because you have moved to a different school, you will NOT be able to complete the re-enrollment form, so we ask that you just send an email to admissions@kyiv.qsi.org. There have been some complications with trying to collect data from those who are now in different school management systems.

Our team will be compiling all the re-enrollment data to better understand and plan for the next school year. We really appreciate your support with this, as we begin to look towards the next school year.

Preschool

Learning Numbers

Teacher: Nataliya Rudenko

3RN class is learning how to count different objects. We have already studied numbers from 1-10 and now we are using our knowledge in practice. We recognize number of objects in a small set, know number names and the count sequence. We match numbers with the quantity of pencils. Skills of coins counting is essential in future life too. We also draw the numbers to remember them better. We use different unexpected materials to make our activity more interesting.

Elementary

The Art of Writing 

Teacher: Sandra Hansen

6SH has worked a lot on writing this year. Since January, students have written poetry, winter stories, daily journals, notes/letters, and animal research reports. Unfortunately, most of their work is in our classroom at KIS.  However, following are several samples of their writings that we have been able to collect. They also worked (online with whatever materials they had available) to create a Home Country Poster. Six year olds develop so much in reading and writing just because they do! 

Middle School

Pyramid STEaM Project - 11yo. Cultural Studies Class

Teacher: Natalie Taranec

CS-11 students have been working on a STEaM Project connected to our Ancient Egypt & African Kingdoms unit. They had created a model of artifacts, like the ones found by archaeologists in Egypt, using creativity and available materials. Examples of the artifacts that were made included: vases, mummified pharaohs and pets, staffs, maps, jewelry, and talismans. Descriptions of the artifacts were translated into "hieroglyphic inscriptions" and were positioned in the interior of the pyramids.

Students needed their engineering skills to then construct their pyramids. They first created small test models and then constructed a larger version to house their hieroglyph inscriptions and artifact. Materials such as fish and chips cartons, pizza boxes, and even shoeboxes came in handy for some pyramid re-purposing! Finally, students learned how to calculate the volume of their pyramid, and reflect on the magnitude and grandeur of some of the greats - like the Great Pyramid of Giza.

While many students thought the construction of the pyramid was the most challenging part, they liked the creative aspect, especially making the artifact and the hieroglyphic inscription. On the whole, CS-11 students can be very proud of their achievements!

  Voices of Ukraine

The project "Voices of Ukraine" gave students and staff the opportunity to share what they are going through during this time. It was also a place to share thoughts, experiences, and encouragement for each other.
