Class Photo Day Right After Spring Break!

We’re almost ready to send this year’s Yearbook to print, but we’re still missing one important piece – the class group photos!

Mark your calendar: Tuesday, April 29 (right after the break) is Class Photo Day. Each class will have a scheduled time slot, and secondary students will receive a direct email with details.

The schedule was shared earlier this week by Ms. Yuliya Vazhka.

| Spring MAP Testing

Spring MAP testing is coming! KIS students will be doing MAP testing on May 6th, 7th and  12th.

The NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Test is an advanced tool designed to evaluate and promote your child’s academic growth and learning achievements.

The result? You, along with your child’s teachers, get valuable insights into your child’s learning trajectory. These insights can identify areas of strength and pinpoint where additional support might be beneficial. This can help tailor your child’s learning experience, keeping it challenging enough to foster growth, yet achievable enough to maintain confidence and motivation.

| "Empower" Lesson Plans

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.

| Secondary I & II Newspaper

Dear KIS Community,

When you hear the word “school” you usually picture teachers, students, and classrooms, but do you ever think about those who work behind the scenes, so our school keeps running smoothly every single day. These are the people we walk past every day — and yet they’re the ones who make KIS feel like home.

In our first newspaper edition, the Sec1/2 literacy class interviewed the often-overlooked staff members who play such a vital role in our school community.

We invite you to read their stories, learn more about their roles, and join us in showing appreciation for everything they do:

Book Club For Adults

KIS has started a book club for adults, and you are invited to join!

Here are the plans:

  1. Read one book per month and be ready to discuss it in English.
  2. Each month one person in the club chooses three titles and we will vote for which one we want to read. We will have one month to read the chosen title before our next meeting.
  3. That book host/hostess of the month will also choose the restaurant or cafe where we will meet to discuss the book and enjoy each other’s company.
