PRESCHOOL

Coordinator's Message

Dear Preschool Parents,

We have had another wonderful week at the Preschool.

Our students quickly adjusted to the new school and happily participate in all classes and activities, listen to the new books and learn new songs.

This week our students began to learn about triangles and the color green. During the Circle Time we talked about different shapes and colors, tried to find them in our classroom and played shape guessing game. Students also began to talk about their families and home activities. They named, described and counted members of their families and started to work on the project” My Family Tree”. This week our Preschool students also continued with the topic “Spring”. They learned what happens in nature in Spring and about Spring holidays. We also discussed how are rainbows formed, listened to the book “Raindrops to Rainbow” and had a rainbow science experiment. During the week they were very busy and tried different activities: triangle prints, spring tree collage and pom-pom Easter bunny. In our cooking lesson we made yummy chocolate nests.

Spring Break is coming next week. We wish all our families Happy and Safe Spring Break!

Best regards,

Ms. Nataliya Yegorova

  ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOL

DI's Message

Dear Elementary and Middle School Families,

I hope you and your family enjoy the break!

Please keep an eye out for wildflowers during the break. When you spot your first spring wildflower, please snap a picture and share it with the office email (below). I’d like to share proof of spring in my next few Kozak Korner messages! Photo from the Mims family (Albania)

Looking ahead:

  • The week after the break is the last week of the 4th Quintile. That means our next round of reports will be headed your way the following week.
  • MAP testing will be held during the first half of May. Your child’s teacher will be sending out a specific testing schedule. If you joined KIS after the fall testing cycle, here is some information for you about what MAP testing is:

Students and Parents are encouraged to follow the link for more information about the MAP test: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/

As always, feel free to reach out anytime with questions or concerns.

  SECONDARY

DI's Message

What’s Going on in Secondary

Morning Mindset – for the first two weeks of May we will be using Morning Mindset as a time for students to meet with teachers and get caught up on missing work. As we approach the end of the year and graduation for our Secondary IV students, we want to ensure that all students have the chance to close their units with A-level mastery!

Student Led Conferences – students have already started to think about these. They will be held on the morning of June 2nd when students will present their academic successes and challenges to their parents and a small panel of teachers (one of whom will mentor the student through the process). These conferences are mandatory for Secondary I-III students and optional for our Secondary IV.

Next Year in Secondary – we hope all our returning students will be able to attend classes on campus next year. If your family believes that online learning is the best option for you, please reach out to Ms. Geary to discuss what this might look like next year.

I hope everyone enjoys a restful and joyful April vacation.

Sincerely,

  LEARNING STORIES & WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

This Is Us: Educator Profile

Sarah Lopert

Titles: Elementary Teacher

Why am I teaching: A sense of purpose is the driving force for humanity, allowing us to connect with each other and improve upon the past. Most of my life I have been trying to connect with people at various levels to understand what drives them. To be honest I never set out to be an educator. My dream as a child was to write for Rolling Stone magazine because I enjoy music as a sense of connection... Due to my love of learning and being inspired by the kids I interacted with over the years, I just knew that I wanted to be teacher.

Favourite Quote: Do you want to be right or do you want to be at peace." - Oprah Winfrey

Favourite thing about KIS: I love coaching volleyball, and seeing the growth and drive of those kids. Often times students who don't usually play sports come to play volleyball just to part of the community. I miss them asking me for extra practices on the weekends because they were out to be the best version of themselves.

Tasty Fridays

Our LOE department together with Secondary students continue to make every Friday special and tasty! This past Friday they made Belgian Waffles!
