Kozak Korner #32. May 07th, 2026

| Director's Message

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday 5th May we were treated to two showings of "Baba Yaha's Three Tales of the Forest" ... a reclamation of three Ukrainian tales where wisdom is earned, not given. Students from across the school collaborated and performed under the expert guidance of Mrs. Leanne Hume. It was thought provoking and so joyful to behold!

I'd like to give you an update following last week's Advisory Board meeting about KIS scholarships. The team met for over 4 hours and deliberated on a case by case basis. We are reconvening this week and expect to make our final decisions soon. Of note is that there were nearly 30 applications and there are 7 places available.

Upcoming events in May, as a reminder:

  • AP Exams - ongoing
  • MAP testing - ongoing
  • CEESA Middle School and High School Volleyball trips to Riga, Vilnius and Krakow, Poland
  • Talent Show on 13th
  • Student Led Conferences on 15th
  • Vyshyvanka Day on 21st - please come to school in your Ukrainian embroidered shirts or dresses
  • International Night on 23rd
  • Middle School Band Concert 26th

Please note that Friday 15th May is not a regular school day, there are no classes that day. Students should accompany their parents at the pre-arranged appointment time. The meeting will be led by students. They will have an opportunity to talk about their successes and challenges and celebrate this school year.

Have a good long weekend, remember no school on 8th May and stay safe.

Very kindest regards,

Ms. Susan Tilney

| "Empower" Program

The Empower curriculum integrates the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection principles into individual lessons throughout the year. These lessons will be delivered during a dedicated weekly EMPOWER class time. This approach aims to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills applicable throughout their lives. Specific lessons tailored to each grade level ensure developmental appropriateness. While some concepts may be revisited annually, the lessons will vary based on the students' age. For more information, please see the QSI Empower statement.

Teachers will keep parents informed about the upcoming lessons for their child, and for certain grades, the lesson plans will be accessible in this newsletter. Click on the post below to view the message from the teacher.

Have Questions About "Empower"?
