Kozak Korner #34. May 27, 2022

Director's Message

Dear KIS Families,

We are rapidly approaching the end of the school year. This past month has gone by quickly. These next few weeks, classes will be finalizing their last units and begin to wrap up the year.

Friday, June 3rd, we will have our Student-Led Conferences. This is a unique conference opportunity for parents to listen to their child(ren) reflect on the school year and present the different areas of growth and learning. We hope that everyone will be able to attend and participate in these conferences.

We have a couple more Coffee Chats scheduled. This week, there will be a discussion on transitioning students to next year classes and new schools. This will be a valuable conversation, as we will have many who have been forced to unexpectedly transition this year. We will also have a coffee chat to talk more about the next school year.

We continue to watch Ukraine with hope that we will be able to return as soon as possible. We are earnestly looking into the conditions and guidelines for our return.

 Arguments and Persuasion

                                          Teacher: Galyna Sheridan

In the Literature and Writing classes, the students were learning how to build an argument by making a claim and supporting it with evidence.

They demonstrated their skills in their posters about dodgeball - whether this game should be part of physical education at schools.

President, SecStuCo

Prior to spring break, Secondary Student Council hosted experimental "Reconnection Sessions that the student body loved! Students for each grade respectively joined their zoom rooms to talk and catchup, but stayed long after the event was formally over.

Additionally, we held a jeopardy-style event with trivia questions from various categories, and students engaged in some friendly competition and banter. It all came down to the last 100 points and Team Toasty (Alisa, Sasha, Wojciech, Illia) took the win.

The passion and engagement from the student body is what motivates us to take risks and we are truly honored to be able to serve this incredible community this year!
