Director's Message
Dear KIS families,
I hope you have all had a good week and the May weather is finally beginning to show. A reminder that we will not have school this next Tuesday, May 9th.
On Thursday, our IB Art students displayed their work at this year's Exhibition, "Call Of A Siren" and the art on display looked absolutely incredible. I just want to thank those who were able to attend this event in person and support these students. I also want to congratulate these students on such thoughtful and expressive art pieces.
This next week is also Teacher Appreciation Week, so make sure to share some love and appreciation with the amazing teachers who work with your children each day!
We are still collecting information concerning our lunch and transportation services at KIS, we ask you to take a moment to complete this short survey. This will be the last week we run the survey. Thank you for helping us to try and make these preparations with as much information as possible.
Sincerely,
Luke Woodruff

PRESCHOOL
Coordinator's Message
Dear Preschool Parents and Students,
This week at our preschool we talked and learned about Community Helpers.
As children begin to explore relationship beyond their family, they expand their awareness into the community. A community as a group of people who live, work or play close to one another. The people in the community that children relate to first are neighbors and community workers. This week, children explored the people in their community who keep them safe and healthy.

LEARNING STORIES & WEEK HIGHLIGHTS
This Is Us: Educator Profile
Julia Matveyeva
Titles: Teacher
Why am I teaching: What motivates me the most about being a teacher is seeing many student lightbulb moments happen during the class time. My greatest goal is not just teach my subject, but to be able to inspire, challenge, provide a safe learning environment, and simply truly care for my learners to make a lasting impact.
Favourite Quote: “"Life has no limitations except the ones you make." - Les Brown
Favourite thing about KIS: KIS is a friendly and caring community, which I am so proud to be a part of. It provides a great learning environment, lots of opportunities for professional growth, and it just feels like a family.
"Call Of A Siren" - IB Art Exhibition
Teacher: Leanne Hume
The IB Art Exhibition on Thursday was a showcase of the incredible talent and creativity of KIS student artists. The exhibition was a culmination of their hard work and dedication over the course of their studies, and it was evident in the quality and beauty of the artwork on display.
The main theme of the exhibition was the perspective of women on the struggles of war and the beauty of hope.
CEESA HS Math Count
Coach: Oksana Chemerys
Last week KIS was hosting CEESA HS Math Count. Eight schools participated online in this event. There were 19 teams of strong, well-prepared mathematicians. Omkar, Anna L., Sasha F., and Liza K. represented our school in this competition. Our teams performed very well. Anna and Liza came to the final Count Down. But it is better to listen to our students.
Mindful Breathing
Teacher: Zhanna Sotnyk
Studies suggest that focusing on the present moment can positively impact health and well-being. Mindful Breathing is a technique that helps to co-regulate the nervous system and bring awareness to the present moment.
To support the daily learning and well-being of our students, we’ve incorporated Mindful Breathing into the Morning Mindset time.
